Old-Time Music
Bluesy version of Shanghai Rooster. Going on my to learn list! Check out that vibrato from Ben Hunter.
Chance McCoy on fiddle, Adam Hurt banjo. Rockin version of this tune!
Sweet Bundy played by Clare Milliner and Walt Koken, authors of the 1400 tune [Milliner-Koken collection](http://www.mudthumper.com/fiddletunesbook.html). In 2020 they started recording a ton of fiddle tunes and posting them on [youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@waltkoken9048/videos).
Was looking around for a good Shuffle About and found this from [Pete Sutherland](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Sutherland). The Jaybird that precedes it is pretty good too!
AJ Srubas making 140 bpm look easy. Clean and fast!
Great version of this tune from the exceptionally happy [Canote Brothers](https://folkworks.org/canote-brothers/)
Judy Hyman played this tune on Bob Carlin's Banging and Sawing record back in 1996, and here it is again in 2024, Ithaca style.
Nice twin fiddle version of this [tune](https://tunearch.org/wiki/Annotation:Golden_Chain_Tree), which is apparently from the [english ballad](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sweet_Trinity).
"They've invented a new machine, I peg one shoe it pegs fifteen"
From Tricia Spencer's 2012 [solo album](https://www.nodepression.com/tricia-spencer-fiddlin-like-theres-no-tomorrow/). I think that's probably with Mark Ward on banjo and Betse Ellis also on fiddle.
Ripping version of this mississippi tune from "Jeb and Mark" plus Andy on bass according to the comments. No idea who's playing guitar. No one looks up! [carter brothers version](https://www.slippery-hill.com/content/jenny-railroad). [Tractor Family](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twuJjNPtIpg) version, Ithaca style.
Travis and Trevor Stuart playing an original G tune "Henry King's Reel". Frequently called at my local jams. Travis is playing a two finger banjo style instead of the usual clawhammer.
Cool ragtimey tune, with train activity in the background. The 1929 [original](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z14uqvri3hI) from Prince Albert Hunt’s Texas Ramblers. "Feel like a jug of molasses"
The Horsenecks with Wave the Ocean followed by a great version of the fiddle tune Flowers of Edinburgh starting at [3:45](https://youtu.be/EJrk3-wRBA0?t=225). The tune is related to, but different from the [scottish one](https://youtu.be/1Cq79yfd1UM?t=48).
Melodic guitar version of Snake Chapman's [tune](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cnRq61fH8w).
A lopey John Salyer tune I've been learning the last few days. That'd be Judy Hyman and Jeff Klaus of the Horseflies (fiddle & guitar), John Herrman (banjo) of Chicken Train, and a young Gus Tritsch on fiddle. Lately Gus has been touring with Jake Blount.
Lush twin fiddle version of [Lady Hamilton](https://tunearch.org/wiki/Annotation:Lady_Hamilton_(1)) from Marcus Martin.
Ripping version of Round Barn from [Garry Harrison](https://www.mybanjoworld.com/garry-harrison-tunes).
the old time version of the bluegrass standard
Some fancy flatfooting from Nic Gareiss!
Grooving track from the [chicken chokers](https://fieldrecorder.org/the-chicken-chokers/).
Banging old time from the "Goodbye Girls". Tune is AKA John Brown's Dream.
Love Dan Gellert's syncopated feel on this one.
Jammin version of tater patch by "the bailers".
This is a crooked [Metis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9tis) tune, from the same tradition as the more well known Grey Owl. David Bragger & Susan Platz learned it from Jamie and they have a pretty good [version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1aQyfufKZY) too.
Snowtown, a crooked tune from Sami Braman.
AJ Srubas is the fiddler on this. Always solid! He won clifftop in 2023.
They jam this one out to almost 11 minutes. Trancey but ripping old time!
Foghorn with Rafe Stefanini on banjo.
Rayna Gellert, John Herrmann, Tom Sauber, Carl Jones, and Ira Bernstein tearing it up with the flatfooting.
My favorite version of [wolves a howling](https://tunearch.org/wiki/Annotation:Wolves_a_Howling). There's a lot going on in that banjo part!
Nice version of [Marcus Martin's Happy Hollow](https://www.slippery-hill.com/content/happy-hollow). Just a great tune!
Jamming version of Buffalo Gals, from banjoist Matokie Slaughter. It uses a mode of the melodic minor scale, pretty unusual for old time.
Joe Thompson (fiddle) is the source on this tune. That's [Bob Carlin](http://bobcarlinmusic.com/producer/record-resume.htm) on banjo. Some other notable versions: [Reeltime Travelers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOT_M0BHmBg) [Carolina Chocolate Drops](https://youtu.be/dXmfrZkRRco?t=27)
This tune is from black fiddler [Will Adams](https://juliannemangin.com/2022/02/03/will-adams-fiddler-of-ken-gar/). One of those that repeats so long its kind of a surprise when you finally change parts. First rate banjo and fiddle on this version.
Rushad Eggleston with the elf hat and cello melody/backup on this one. The excellent Tatiana Hargreaves on fiddle. You wish for Chinquapin Hunting!??!
Love these two on twin fiddles. Mary Jane Epps was on a great album called "Light and Hitch" that's out of print. Both her and Michele Lanan are biologists as well as fiddlers. Tune is from [Edden Hammons](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edden_Hammons).
