And do some comments / recap. I find annoying people just posting link without saying anything. IMHO lemmy is about people opinion not just sharing link.
If you want news links then rss reader, Google news, Flipboard or whatever are what should be used.

Not to say OP didn't do a good work. But Lemmy is better when you are not ending just clicking link to read articles.
So a suggestion would be at minimal to add an AI recap as post comment.

Can't you disable it in settings? On android there is an option to toggle off sponsored shortcuts.
I agree they shouldn't force it on but at least with minimal effort and if it's really annoying it's easy to disable.

  • World's Biggest Anime Piracy Streaming Site Put on U.S. Government's Radar as Major Threat
  • Matth78 Matth78 2w ago 83%

Streaming services should be required to provide free access where they are allowed to put ads at the beginning and only once or twice depending length and not cutting a scene. And maybe free access could be limited to a number of episodes.

Anyway my point is be real, some people won't pay because they can't or because you don't want to subscribe to 10 streaming sites. Especially when sometimes there is only one anime, tv shows you are interested in. So real solutions should be found if companies really wants to fight piracy...

For Tv shows piracy has never been so low as when Netflix had reasonable price and was the only one. It offered a real alternative and people where willing to pay for it.
I also believe crunchyroll do a lot of good as it has a quasi monopoly but it's starting to erode with Netflix and Disney starting to get animes. 😕

Firefox users probably but why, why, why government are not more involved and are not funding Mozilla to ensure a non profit browser... Really I don't understand it. Are people in power just a bunch of old people happy to post on bad media such as X with no understanding of internet and enshitification ?

True, I feel boost is really lacking in displaying correctly markdown. Spoilers not being hidden are really annoying.
For reference this post highlights Lemmy apps on how accurately they display markdown. And this comment use all markdown to test how your current app is rendering them.

Agree. If it was a perfect world then governments would fund and contribute to open source project to make sure there are good free solution to keep your data private (at least from being collected and sold to some random companies) and make sure they won't go down.
    Sadly I don't think it's really happening...

I'm not sure what to think. Overall it was OK but main character not realizing his strength is offsetting. I know it probably aims to add some comic but for me it's just dumb and not especially funny. If there is a second season it's likely I won't watch it.

  • best alternative to windows file explorer?
  • Matth78 Matth78 1mo ago 100%

I will be off topic as what I am going to suggest is not open source... But I myself looked for a long time what was the best free windows file manager and I settled up on FreeCommander.
By default UI is not nice but it's possible to make it nice enough.

I use this one mainly because : you can use it for free, dual pan, it remembers tab history between sessions, tabs can be renamed and colored. Hope someone will suggest a good open source one but I don't think there is any :-/

I would say VueTorrent has more features. Yet on Android as it's not an app you can't make it open magnet links or torrents when tapping / downloading one.
That would be great to have it as an app or to be able to turn it into a pwa.

IMHO I am not an expert but Mullvad seems the best (from what I read from others) and I would stick with it. I am using it and happy with it. I also appreciate that their monthly price do not change depending on how many months you subscribe and that there is no bullshit discount for the first x months.
You could also look at Proton VPN if you need port forwarding.

  • Communities in left drawer are alphabetically sorted by default. Yet the sort is based on names and not on displayed names. Is there some option that I didn't found to change it? Or could it be fixed or added as an option? I know I could sort manually but it's not ideal when adding new communities. For instance episode_discussion@ani.social use "Anime episode discussions" as display name. When I search for my anime subscribed communities I often forget it as the sort looks like it's wrong with what boost display as community name. 😕

  • Subscription fatigue: when will enough be enough?
  • Matth78 Matth78 2mo ago 80%

What I find annoying is for what you occasionally use.

For instance I started to listen more frequently to a songs service (which I was bypassing ads) and so I thought to officially subscribe. When I looked at prices I didn't because it was too costly and knowing me I could stop anyday to use it. Price for one was above 10 when for two it was something like 14 so 7 per person and which I would have been ok to pay. Good for me because I stopped to listen some weeks after and it has beek years I didn't really use it.

I think, especially for video and audio media consumption, you should pay a global amount and it should be split between services you used. Split should be based on usage.

IMHO same as previous month. Not much. Some usual improvements to web version, some new copilot AI. For the latter in some way it's cool for non advanced users but in others what would be their ability to check for complex formulas if there is no shortcomings in what copilot proposed or what they asked. Summary from article : >Generating multiple formula columns, creating complex formula columns that span across multiple tables, and new ways to engage with Copilot in Excel are now available to Excel users on web and Windows. Copying and pasting improvements and sharing links to sheet views are also available in Excel for the web, and the ink to text pen is rolling out to Insiders running Excel for Windows.
