There is a cute Earthbound rom hack titled "Hallow's End" which takes place on Halloween.
There's also a legitimately scary wad for Doom 2 (ZDoom Engine) titled "Ghouls Forest 3" (CW: Gore jumpscare if you get got by the final big bad). Scariest thing I've ever played. Very deep eerie tension with shit hitting the fan out of nowhere.
There is also the Granny series (as seen on GDQ). I haven't played it but it looks like a good time (if having increased blood pressure is how you define having a good time).

Sicko tux is very appropriate.
I tried NixOS for a month or two, on my desktop and on a VPS. It was really cool, but there are too many niche things I need to tweak which Nix makes difficult. I do have a self-bootstrapping Emacs init file which works kind of like this though. Just gotta drop one file in place and it installs and configures everything.

I went to a Catholic wedding about a year ago but they kept that shit moving. The ceremony didn't take much longer than normal, aside from people taking communion. To be fair, the priest was partying with us the night before and after. Not your average Catholic wedding, I suppose.

The defi lending protocol Tapioca DAO was exploited after an attacker reportedly socially engineered the DAO's co-founder and gain access to their private key. The attacker then used their access to sell off TAP tokens, and to drain a stablecoin liquidity pool on the platform, netting around $4.4 million in USDC and ETH. The TAP token price subsequently crashed by around 96%.
Various security researchers have observed that the attack appears to be linked to a slew of social engineering attacks perpetrated by cybercriminals out of North Korea.

Probably not gonna buy it, but I have repeatedly searched for bluetooth controllers that would make playing my 250+ N64 roms a little more ergonomic than the DS4 controller I use for everything else.

Maybe, if the lesson is "if you can no longer fight with your right arm, use your left."

I'm sure there are some people who think like this, but this is fucking astroturf. Reddit is always astroturfed to fucking hell and back during elections. Communities for internet pundits like Hasan are prime for astroturf.

Mark Ames has repeatedly described the UAE as Venetian. Very wealthy, very shrewd. They don't get themselves bloodied. They use their money to have others fight their battles for them. They punch well above their weight in influence.
At some point this crosses the line into hubris though. They are not untouchable. They will get themselves bloodied, and their migrant-slaves will not fight very hard to defend them.

I think these minority groups are too marginalized to play any pivotal role in regime change. Strictly in numbers, it is a big step down from NGOs focused on issues like women's rights or ethnic / sectarian representation which might represent a double-digit percentage, economically powerful, or geographically strategic segment of the population.
These cut-out organizations exist for the sole purpose of branding to audiences in the imperial core. Should the US and its allies find a suitable candidate or movement for regime change, their endorsement will embew it with a "civilizing" gloss, and justify any interventions made to support them.
After 21 years of development, FreeCAD 1.0 is rapidly approaching. The project has entered a release-candidate phase, where testing versions are released for last-minute evaluation and bug discovery before finalization. This post links to the RC1 announcement (the big news), but a [second ![second-plane](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhexbear.net%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F119729f3-c32c-451d-ac2c-5392c89a7f10.png "emoji second-plane") ](https://blog.freecad.org/2024/09/24/the-second-release-candidate-of-freecad-1-0-is-out/) release candidate has been published since then.
If you've been running Linux for a while, you may have seen `libcaca` get pulled in as a dependency here or there and thought it had a funny name. It is a library for manipulating text graphics ("ASCII Art," though it has full UTF-8 support). I visited their website this morning and thought it was remarkably quaint. Also got a big laugh out of ["Terror on the Desktop."](http://caca.zoy.org/wiki/hot-babe) ::: spoiler spoiler `hot-babe` was a CPU usage monitor for X11 displays which embedded in your desktop in a similar fashion to `conkey`. It featured an anime waifu who would get increasingly naked the more busy your computer was. A utility which now lives in the trash heap of computer history. :::

For those who live under a rock, Strawberry Jam is a collaborative level pack made for Celeste which contains 111 levels and NINE HOURS of original soundtrack. It embodies the workmanship of over 350 contributors. The levels are split into five categories ranging from 'beginner' to 'grandmaster.' The statement continues in a [tweet thread](https://twitter.com/DemSocialists/status/1820930956246544544) Absolutely pathetic. My pessimism is spiking to C. Derek Varn levels. These motherfuckers have given you NOTHING. They are jingling car keys in front of your face and you are cooing like an infant. How are you not only going to endorse, but TAKE CREDIT for the selection of this guy with absolutely no promises or concessions. This man will be the Vice President, and by your own admission, the blood will be on your hands.

> The platforms have rigged things so that you must have an account with them in order to function, but they also want to have the unilateral right to kick people off their systems. The combination of these demands represents more power than any company should have, and Big Tech has repeatedly demonstrated its unfitness to wield this kind of power.
