Social media sleuths try to solve Pasadena’s urine bottle mystery by: Marc Sternfield Two local filmmakers are trying to solve a mystery that has confounded and disgusted residents of Pasadena for more than two years: Who is placing containers full of urine atop a utility box, and why? As the Los Angeles Times reports, the so-called “Piss Bandit” has been fixated on a specific Pasadena Water & Power electrical box on Colorado Boulevard – leaving behind bottles and even large jugs of urine. Some are even labeled as such. In a series of True Crime-style videos posted to TikTok, Derek Milton and Grant Yansura have made it their mission to document and potentially expose the culprit. One video, which includes night vision hidden camera footage, has amassed over six million views, and subsequent videos have reached millions more. Pasadena Piss Bandit Bottles of urine are seen atop a utility box in Pasadena, California, in 2024. (TikTok @_derekmilton) A city spokesperson told the L.A. Times that police in Pasadena are also interested since the bottles have irked residents and drawn complaints. Recently, the city tried to stop the “Piss Artist” -as Milton calls him- by installing a triangular metal cap atop the electrical box so it was no longer flat. It didn’t work. The person destroyed the cap, leaving shards of metal on the ground – along with a fresh delivery of urine-filled bottles. Milton and Yansura believe the “bandit” is a single man. As to his motive, no one is quite sure.

Hey dude - I won't remove this post because I'm a little late to the party and it's received a good number of upvotes, but in the future, please be mindful of the sidebar rule: "Images should be wallpaper size (at least 1920x1080, or mobile equivalent)." 1200x829 is a fairly low quality image to use as a wallpaper. Thanks!

Hey mate, thanks for the feedback! I'm trying my best to keep this place populated with content but there's only so much I can do. There's no restrictions on posting to the community (except for a few postings rules/guidelines, see the sidebar), so if you have a wallpaper preference or would like to see different types of content, please feel free to contribute and share. Cheers!

  • Have you ever coordinated your lock and home screen wallpapers?
  • TheWaterGod TheWaterGod 8mo ago 100%

I've never really thought of coordinating them tbh but it sounds and looks like a neat idea. I've always kept the lock and home screen the same but lately I've been changing the wallpaper to roughly match the season. So right now it's a snowy mountains for winter.

  • Is there a sub somewhere between shitty food porn and food porn?
  • TheWaterGod TheWaterGod 9mo ago 100%

You're more than welcome to post on shitty food porn. There's not a lot of activity and the votes will let you know if it's the right place (I don't remove posts unless they're breaking rules). It kind of has two interpretations - pictures of shitty food (self explanatory) or food porn that's shitty (ie bad lighting, bad presentation, etc).

Or let me know if you start an "average food porn" community and I'm more than happy to link it in the sidebar of SFP.

Thanks! I'll try converting the file format and see if that'll work. I successfully uploaded a JPEG last night, so maybe it just doesn't like PNG files anymore 🤷‍♂️

There seems to be an issue with uploading large images. I don't know if anyone else has noticed it but I'm getting the error when trying to upload wallpapers to /c/wallpapers. I think it might be related to file size? Or maybe file format? It's a 13MB .png file. I don't remember running into issues with the old version when posting similar content.

I've seen that option but unfortunately not every NSFW post is NSFW because of nudity. Like some of the post in the Ukraine community are marked NSFW for war reasons.

This is the thing I'm happiest to see and I hope it helps Lemmy grow more. Being able to block the NSFW/porn instances is such a quality-of-life improvement. I've got nothing against porn, but it's a bad look if anyone can see your screen and every third post is nudity (even if it's blurred).

  • ‘It’s quite soul-destroying’: how we fell out of love with dating apps
  • TheWaterGod TheWaterGod 12mo ago 96%

I gave up on online dating last year and I won't be back. If that means I'll end up dying alone, I'm honestly more comfortable with that idea than suffering though anymore of the bullshit that's Tinder/Bumble/Hinge/etc. It's become such a miserable experience for both sides (men and women).

As someone who had used online dating on and off for 10+ years, I can tell you one of the big problems - money and greed. I know it's always easy to just "blame capitalism", but I've seen first-hand the paradigm shift from an actual useful service (i.e. a way to meet people that you would otherwise not meet) to the blatant greed it's become. The dating apps are so obviously profiteering off people's loneliness it's fucking disgusting. Back before Match bought everyone up, these services used to actually be okay for what they were.

Thank you for that! I've added that to the sidebar regardless of how this vote moves forwards. It's actually just a good rule to have. I've gone with "no older than 2 months" to give a little wiggle room and I'll see how that goes. I can always make it tighter down the line.

A post like this is really making me wonder about the direction of this community. Not in a bad way. This is great content. I've been wondering for a while if I should expand the idea from "Offbeat News" to just general "Offbeat" things (news and other items). I need to formulate a mod post now lol.
