India's biggest data breach? Hacking gang claims to have stolen 815 million people's personal information
  • bacteriostat bacteriostat 12mo ago 100%

The data leak is of AADHAR database. Which is a proof of identity that is required by everyone to avail government services. It is even used for SIM registration and opening bank account.

Government has been recently trying to link Voter IDs to AADHAR. It is already linked to Tax Account called PAN.

It has been turned it to a surveillance tool and this leak can be huge if true.

  • I don't find any value in Red-Hat but I see their corporate thinking. Who really need them and why?
  • bacteriostat bacteriostat 1y ago 100%

Of course they need the software and that's why they contribute to make it better. That's how most of the FOSS development works anyway. People have an 'itch' to fix the issues or add a feature and they do it and the license makes sure that others benefit from that itch.

  • bacteriostat bacteriostat 1y ago 100%

Apart from RHEL, RedHat contributes to hundreds of FOSS projects and hires a lot of FOSS devs. So their contribution in progressing the desktop linux is huge. You can see the contributions to the various project here: https://www.redhat.com/en/about/open-source-program-office/contributions

Believe it or not corporates play a big role in making Linux what it is and their enshittification is bad for Linux ecosystem.

Sad that RedHat went this way.

Are you on X or Wayland?
  • bacteriostat bacteriostat 1y ago 100%

I understand and X works fine for a lot od people but do remember the number of developers maintaining it have been dropping year on year. No harm in trying IMO. If you are on Plasma or Gnome, you get a simple switcher on the login screen.

IMO for now, post everything on this community itself as it is not that active. We can slowly diversify into niches but we first need to improve interaction.

First they went after Vanced, now Invidious. With the ongoing recession, companies are realising that less and less people would be be willing to pay for subscriptions and to increase their revenue they are going to tie all the loose ends they have allowed over the years.
