Relatively new to Python so that's news to me.

Other languages I've used support assignment like that but I always avoid it, but they just used = so I'll give this walrus a try and see if the different syntax makes it any better in my mind

I definitely agree with your second point. And I find it ridiculous that a company can ever claim to "own" your genetic information. It's why I've never dared sign up for any kind of genetic ancestry sites. I can't give that personal of information away for free, let alone pay for it to be taken

For me, I respect female characters who are written strong but not mean or "buff". Your character doesn't need to be a dick or on steroids to be strong. A strong person can be kind and compassionate, just not capitulate under pressure. I also don't believe being "independent" means you can't love someone and lean on them in times of need, it just means you aren't defined by the relationship.

I do well enough to comfortably support my wife and me. I have a retirement plan, put a small amount into saving, and don't buy things on credit (besides to pay them off immediately for rewards points). I have paid off my car and it should last me a good long while. I do have student loans outstanding but I pay those down and my work provides a stipend each month that effectively doubles my payment on that. I have some small investment accounts to play the stock market, but not life-changing money. We have plenty of money leftover after the mortgage to live just as comfortably as I would like.

This all being said, I am an outlier in the current economy. Most are paid too little for too much work and I would happily pay more for most products if I thought the money was going to the employees, but I know they are given the smallest amount possible.

What in the world? You are in a relationship with them. You can't live with, sleep in the same bed with, be best friends with, and do sexual stuff with someone and not be in a relationship! What do you think a relationship is?!

You say you don't want a relationship with them but what on Earth would you change if you entered into a "relationship" with them? Just your perspective and a label from the sounds of it.

I feel as though you need to reassess where you're actually at in this. Think about what a relationship means to you and why this person cannot fit that role for you.

And above all, you need to talk to them about this and ask if they think you're in a relationship. Because you might need to "break up" with them regardless of how you feel about it

I think I get closer to what you're describing in most builds. Small buildings on a flat foundation surface high above the ground, where all the "shipments" come from a lower level so all the conveyor belts are hidden. Kind of like when you build a computer and stuff all the extra cords onto the side of the case out of sight.

I wonder if there's a correlation between a love of blueprints and a preference towards closer together infrastructure. Because my friend also loves blueprints, but I generally don't like them.

  • notnotmike notnotmike 1mo ago 75%

That depends, is it a metaphor for factory

    2
  • My friend and I routinely have conversations about factory design. His ideal factory ships every ore in its raw state to a single building, which can then move the ore to different floors/sections for processing. He goes further than most and separates each product into its own "room", so all steel bars are made in one room then shipped to the steel beam and steel pipe rooms. Importantly the factory should be designed so that you can "infinitely" expand a room if you need more of that resource. I prefer what I call "microfactories", where each component is created in a small, independent factory and the result is shipped to a main repository for builder use and for the space elevator construction. If you need modular frames, for example, you would find a group of ores and build a small factory on it and build every sub-component you can in it. Ideally, it would not rely on any other microfactory's outputs, but sometimes that's easier said than done. Often I will have a small cluster of microfactories all dedicated to shipping their output to a final microfactory for processing. So what do you all use? Note: He claims his design is more analogous to microservices (from software architecture) than mine, and that mine is something apparently called "pirate architecture". I think he's out of his mind on that one.

I want to become a more knowledgeable gardener, and besides research and studying, I think a fun way to enhance my knowledge would be a fun gardening game. Are there any that are particularly accurate or relaxing? [Garden Life](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1915380/Garden_Life_A_Cozy_Simulator/) looks pretty chill but maybe not challenging or accurate to reality. And to clarify, by accurate I mean you need to plant in correct lighting, water an appropriate amount, and fertilize to optimize for stems, flowers, fruits, etc.. Bonus points for having the option to pick your planting zone!

Hey all, I've created a catio (cat patio) for my two cats in a window well next to my desk. They absolutely love it, but I would like to make it even better for them by using _real_ grass. Currently, I have a pretty good artificial grass in there that they love to lay in and stays green year 'round, which is fine enough. But I would really love to give them some real grass (or moss) to lay on and maybe even munch on. So, with that backstory, I would love to find a grass that has the following traits. 1. Comfortable and safe for cats (both internally and externally) 2. Stays relatively short since I can't exactly get a lawn mower 3. Doesn't require a lot of sun It would also be a bonus if it were okay with more arid climates, because I would prefer to minimize watering as much as possible. My mind goes to something like Spanish Moss since it stays relatively short and is pretty comfy, but I'm not sure if that's the best option, so I wanted to ask people more experience than me. Picture of the window well in its current state and one of its occupants for reference below. And for anyone concerned, the well is closed in with a grate and some chicken wire so they can't slip out. They are not outdoor cats, but we do take them out on harnesses for walks. They are treated for pests like tics and mites as a precaution. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fprogramming.dev%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F485240e3-34d6-459c-9ee1-22fa26022ad0.jpeg) Thanks anyone who answers!

Getting older so I've decided I need to get into a routine of working out.

Reached 30 and the wheels started falling off. Gained 20 pounds and back pain out of nowhere, it's like a damn sitcom. I feel uncomfortable in clothes I've worn for a decade so its time to put in effort. Better late than never I guess. **I want advice on good beginner resources**. I'm talking really beginner, like how many reps to do, how long between reps, what machines to hit, etc. I've been to gyms before but just kinda rode the reclined bike them made shit up when I got to the weight machines. I also am terrible at not doing too much with my back, which is almost certainly where my back pain originates from, so extra instruction on how to properly engage my core is a bonus. The one advantage I have is that I'm very good at tracking calories. I've just gotten lazy since Covid. So I've downloaded MacroFactor to try out some new technology. I've used Waistline recently but it's just too cumbersome to add food, and I lose motivation. Appreciate the help in advance! P.S. the one upside to turning 30 is that I can grow a beard now. So at least I've got that going for me

Around two years ago I was on a really small team, just two or three developers, and the other developer decided they wanted us to use Rider. Because I didn't have a preference, I used Rider and rather enjoyed it. However, that developer has since moved teams and now it is just me (for the time being). So I was considering moving back to Visual Studio or even switching to Visual Studio Code, but I wanted to see some arguments against this. Here is my list so far, but it's probably out of date since I haven't used Visual Studio in a long time. Pros of Rider: - Much faster than using ReSharper - Less sharp interface with a better font - I'm used to it at this point - I have a Nyan cat loading bar which is kind of fun Cons of Rider: - Enterprise license is expensive (probably) - New versions of C# aren't immediately supported - Refactorings are becoming less necessary with the rise of AI assistants - Don't really like their source control manager Wanted to hear what other users think. What keeps you using Rider?

I've got a theory about one of the Chaos Fanatic's Combat Achievements - Praying to the Gods

The [Praying to the Gods](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Praying_to_the_Gods) achievement requires you to kill the fanatic 10 times "without drinking any potion which restores prayer" and without leaving the wilderness. Simple solution is to pray on the nearby Chaos Altar or to take the obelisk down to a less busy altar near Ferox. However, do you think the spaghetti code takes into account [Stat Restore Pot Share](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Stat_Restore_Pot_Share) or butterflies? Could you cheese this one with a friend?
