bluesky is run by a single org, and you have to beg them to let their router include your 'independent' instance. it is a closed garden.

it is like federating with facebook (not threads) by begging facebook to include your server and content into their garden.

thats not open federation. even after they let you in, they could take their ball home and lock it down at any moment.

that why i mentioned it depends on the type of violence. it was mentioned 'slasherfilms' which i find is an entirely different level compared to james bond.

i dont think that level has changed much at all. movies that require action, still have that nonsense.

you dont see sites advertsing short form violence like pornhub. its apples/oranges.

it isnt. its your own confirmation bias.

gratuitous [unnecessary] sex scenes are/were in an incredibly larger number of movies than the violence i think youre referring to.

the desire for gratuitous violence is probably orders of magnitude less sought for than our sex drive.

sex is so much more of a psycho-social driver than violence as to make your assumption invalid.

    e. i would also add slasher films are slasher films. they arent regular movies with slasher film parts thrown in to attract as many eyeballs as possible. they were written to attract people into that niche thing.

    ha, no.

if youre gay you get murdered unless you capitulate to surgery. this is just that terrible regime forcing surgery on people who dont want it but also dont want to die. it has nothing to do with trans protections/rights/whatevs

i think it was prevalent before the interwebs because there was largely few places to get porn, and throwing it in a movie meant more eyeballs.

as porn became immediately available in other forms (mostly the internet), the unnecessary scenes could be eliminated as a waste of time and a detraction from plots. they ceased being a reason to draw eyeballs.

im convinced it is inevitable that a global DNA database of nearly everyone will exist. it will get out and be public.

your DNA is unchangeable (mostly) and interlinked. you leave it literally everywhere you go without the ability not to. youve left it in every store. every airport. every breath you make.. every hair you shed.

it might not be my lifetime, but DNA is about as secret as your face.

  • what an amazing dramedy. especially the first several seasons. so many wonderful characters, it really has something for everyone. buttery voiced john corbetts seamless radio-narration and its philosophical bent fits right in with a town full of quirky personalities. the indigenous population playing a wonderful straight-man to the town. it even holds up well. the remoteness denotes a lack of tech that isnt too far out of place today. this is one of those shows where you just want to be a part of it. it could also never be replicated/rebooted successfully... lighting striking twice and all that. anyone else have such fond memories of _[northern exposure](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098878/)_? im about to start my per-decade rewatch.

I really liked 'the cosby show'. it was a significant change in the demonstration of a successful, minority family. its funny. it also holds up well; the writing did not date itself _too_ much to the era. but, ya know... Cosby. can you separate the artist from the art? a part of me feels like i should still be able to enjoy the show even though he is a terrible person. thoughts?

'Elsbeth' is the obvious spiritual successor to Columbo ive been waiting for

the format of displaying the murder even before the credits. the quirkiness.. almost feigned ignorance. that said it is different enough to be unique. the character is much more charismatic.. theres all that backstory included with the murder-of-the-week. comedy is up a notch. im only half way through the season, but its kinda great!
