Non preppers / Doomers. What's one small thing you're prepped for?
  • subignition subignition 9h ago 100%

You'd want to leave a little space in the containers so they don't burst if they freeze. I think it's still worth having at least some emergency water even if you might have to figure out thawing it.

it's a good idea to keep some drinking water in your car as well if you don't already.

Elite:Dangerous is sad for its own reasons, too, and I have a similar count of hours logged. Glacial pace of development and a lack of strong game design / sense for balance. I'm still stunned by how much of a selling point the background simulation was, and how limited it actually is in practice (it did get some love over the years, but far too little too late IMO.)

That's the best part, you don't need to explain the creation of the universe. It doesn't need to make sense; we're here regardless.

Morality is pretty self-evident and emerges from basic empathy. That's one of the most worrisome things about religious people IMO, believing morality is imposed rather than inherent makes them come off as wanting to do a bunch of heinous things were it not for the idea of hell.

An omnipotent being choosing to let you do wrong so that it can punish you if you do, is sick and twisted through any lens. The usual response is "God can't be understood by mortals" but that's a thought-terminating cliche..

"Be free or be a slave" is a false dichotomy. It is very easy to imagine a being that has free will and a huge range of creative and artistic expression while also being limited from doing harm. No limitations could apply to an omnipotent creator, so the only reason for the status quo would be its choice. And frankly if there was intelligence behind this design they could have done a hell of a lot better.

God is a fiction humans created to personify the apathy of nature so that we could cope better with our existence.

    It should be so easy.

"God created doctors. Therefore, abortion is also part of God's plan."

But you can't logic someone out of a position they didn't logic themselves into.

  • What technology purchase felt like a major upgrade in your life?
  • subignition subignition 6d ago 100%

I got a microwave with an inverter magnetron.

When you set your microwave to, let's say, 20% power, a typical microwave will cycle the magnetron, so that it runs at 100% power for 20% of the cooking time and is off in between. With an inverter, the actual power output of the magnetron can vary, so it's actual 20% power for the whole time. It does an excellent job of gently reheating things like sandwiches and cooked rice without drying them out or scorching. Also, if something has instructions written for a lower wattage microwave, I can just turn the power down until it's close to that wattage instead of doing calculations to modify the time.

High rate of HTTP 5XX errors in the past day or so.

It's probably already on your radar but I didn't see a thread* about it so I figured I would mention it. Seen 502 when trying to load the main page, and on occasion when viewing my feed on mobile web the page would transition to a 503 or 504 error seemingly without my input.

    Periodic issues connecting to https://fedia.io

Hi, Every so often, when I try to browse to https://fedia.io through my browser bookmark, I receive an error resolving the domain. Firefox suggests https://www.fedia.io but navigating there gives me an HSTS error (picture attached, hopefully.) Usually, if I check back 15 minutes or so after this occurs, https://fedia.io will load normally, and then https://www.fedia.io actually loads the landing page for: > Books.Infosec.Exchange > A Bookwyrm Instance for Infosec.Exchange I'm not quite sure if this is an issue with my network or a problem with the instance itself. However, I thought I would report it. Let me know if there is any other information I can provide that will be helpful in figuring this out.

Title. I found out recently that I need some major dental work in the near future and I don't have a damn clue how I am going to raise the extra money. I want to explore any realistic options for increasing my earnings before I have to resort to taking on debt, and I suspect that soliciting ideas in a semi-public place like this will turn up a lot of ideas I would never have considered myself. I'm not very physically fit, but I am pretty good with computers generally, and I've picked up a little bit of programming in my free time this year, though I wouldn't sell myself as a freelancer in that department or anything. I am also pretty good at proofreading / nitpicking things, my regular job is in QA. Thank you in advance for any input.
