Okay one thing that bothers me so much is how hard it is to hook custom logic into the play button. Like all I want is my own script to run when someone presses play.

Sometimes this is important because you need to do some processing on the scene. Or perhaps the scene is a UI scene or something and you just want to start from another scene that shows the UI at work.

Like if you are developing a UI, you just wanna press play and it should just work and play. Either from the start scene or a test scene.

That's the weird thing about unity. On one hand it allows you to do a lot of editor customization, and I haven't worked on a project yet that doesn't have some form of that. On the other hand, you can't even hook into or replace the play button logic, which you could argue is the most basic action of all.

Another thing is that a client I am working for just switched to unity's version management. And it just doesn't work in a straight forward way. I still don't have that working because I need to work and get stuff done.

Another thing is that their new animation system didn't even allow me to query the duration of an animation, at least back when it came out and kept marketing with it. We actually ended up writing an entirely parallel system with meta data which was overly complicated for what we needed.

    I could go on..

    Interesting question.

You'd have to cancel out the sideway movement of the earth, and it's going roughly 85000km an hour.

Once you cancel that out, you'll simply fall down to the sun. But you'd need a very powerful rocket. It's way easier to get to mars, as comparison.

It's more realistic to do gravity assists from venus and other bodies, and in that case it'd take years. Just a rough guesstimate would be 10 years I guess? But maybe you'd have to even sling past jupiter or something to really slow down, so then it might be decades.

Isn't that girl in If Found going back home from Edinburgh? That's based on a real story iirc in the 90s and she was able to come out there. So if that's true then it can't be that bad.

And also a tip from me is to learn self defense.

Then you'll also be surprised to learn that I am insulted constantly and laughed at. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great people, but it is naive to think the Netherlands is a tolerant place. When you go through the medical system you face the same attitudes.

The issue is, if you believe in the system, you'll give it a chance to traumatize you. This is added on top of other traumas such as losing your family, becoming homeless and so on. The trans thing itself isn't actually the biggest part of it, it's the culture and the society.

Sure, you could get lucky and have the right gp and meet the right psychiatrist, and then you have to wait 5 years before you get any medical support. I've tried. I mean I've literally been at a gp that I knew was trans friendly and I told her I was at risk of suicide, and she was OK with that.

And about the medicine, well you can compound it yourself. I honestly can't live without it, because it is night and day for my mental wellbeing. Without it, it is extremely difficult to live. It's like you're in a state of dissociation and it's painful. It's quite a complex thing to describe, but you are effectively disabled and are at risk of suicide.

I've been with unity since the early days and back then it was this simple little engine.

Today it's a nightmare. I just made an hdr project and imported their own terrain example assets and guess what? It's broken in multiple ways. Now I have to waste time fixing it, instead of focusing on my project. And that's as a unity expert rather than a beginner.

That's not to mention all the errors it loves to throw at me, even though it's all quite vanilla. And how it loves to grab my attention with popup windows that block my view. How builds fail when I focus on another window. I could go on.

They keep adding features without finishing them. Clearly some kind of impulsive marketing behavior, rather than listening to the experts.

The cherry on top is that licensing nonsense they pulled, putting my hard earned livelihood in danger. That stuff really makes you scratch your head and look around.

    Seriously, try out Godot.

Edit: I actually just realized I haven't even started yet with truly getting stuff off my chest here.

  • What books do you consider must reads?
  • xilliah xilliah 1mo ago 100%

Hmm, considering your religious upbringing you might want to try some absurdist literature to break the mold.

    • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
    • The Cyberiad
    • Discworld
    • The Little Prince

These are accessible too, as you're not used to reading yet.

I can also recommend subscribing to a monthly magazine and making a point to read it from cover to cover. That way your skills will improve. You can also buy a whole stack of old national geographics cheaply. This will expand your horizons.

It's good for all of us to be privacy literate, given that things can take a turn for the worse in many places, or already are bad. There was a post a few days ago that highlighted how the vast majority of trans people rely on internet access 🤔 I'll start by saying that matrix seems to be a solid solution for communication, and tor for accessing information. It's worth it to get familiar with them before you need them yourself, but also to understand them as a community so we can support each other globally 🏳️‍⚧️ I am also wondering if any of you are familiar with getting around network restrictions. For example a DIY mesh network? 📡

Don't give up. Eat your breakfast. Be ready to open the door. Sometimes I just can't take it anymore. A shoe lace here, a shoe lace there, all tangled up and poor. I ruminate in the deepest point of darkness. In the eye of the singularity and at the heart of warmth. Thuds of fire strike upon the distant shore. I pull and I pull, but I cannot free my neck. And my face runs pale, and my experience runs thin. I gasp for air, and I let it in. An oasis in my breath. The orange of orange juice. And I, and I can be found in the blue sky, by the grace one cannot lose. When last night I lay in pain, I snapped this just for you, as the moon came.

I was at this fry shop today and the owner was teaching his new minions how to make what I had ordered. He said sir in the background. Well, I'm used to it, so whatever, I plopped my butt down and waited for that golden finger lickin' goodness. Eventually the guy awkwardly comes to the front through a door. Acts out of place. Says something nice to this person and that person, dunno what he was up to at first so I just did my thing. At some point he works up the courage and walks up to me and makes some small talk. Then he asked me my pronouns, so I'm like she/her. He apologized that he misgendered me before and called me adorable! 😭 Now, just yesterday someone called me a trannie before riding off on his bicycle, but that's a story for another time. Safe to say I'm a fair Claire ⭐

Hey just an update, as I made a post Thursday a week ago that was quite heavy, and I felt it would be unfair to leave that hanging. I've finally gone on hrt and I feel amazing. In a terrible kind of way. Like still totally depressed, numb, concentration issues and the like but in a feeling fantastic kind of way. Last Monday I broke a vase. I left it like that until today. I tidied up, cleaned up, moved furniture, cried cuz of music, hung pictures on the wall which I wanted to do for years, apologized to a friend, unpacked more of my stuff. I rewarded myself by going out and getting a pizza. I clicked with everyone it was fantastic. While I was biking home I realized that I knew I wouldn't be tired. I wouldn't have to retreat into a dark corner with my phone, pushing away hours hoping for my stamina to return. Hormones work. I still can't believe it. I still can't believe I am a woman. I still can't believe that I can decide what I'll do tomorrow. I still can't believe that this is what life is like for most poeple. Ya'll doing a bunch of drugs 24 7 essentially. And this goes on for the rest of my life? Omg Edit: [this song](https://redirect.invidious.io/watch?v=f7DgFOUMrJg)
