Amazon cloud boss says employees unhappy with 5-day office mandate can leave

This will just be the way layoffs go from now on. Don't quit. Just keep working from home while looking for another job until they fire you.

[My initial reply got posted top- level for some reason]

True, he straight up admits many times in the books that he would lie about his wealth so that other people would work with him. I assume that came out during his fraud case in NY.

He had a few deals that worked out - all starting with dad's money. He managed to squander 4 out of 5 of everything he tried. Casinos in Atlantic City, Trump University, Trump Steaks, Trump Ice, Wollman Rink, etc. It's a long list. But the 1 or 2 that worked is why he has any money at all. If I remember correctly, it's mostly the golf courses and an option he bought in the 70s for an old railroad yard in lower west side Manhatten I think. He really fucked someone over on that one. He bragged about how much he screwed them for pages and pages. Like it brought him more joy to fuck someone over than it did to have a success. He's a complete psychopath.

Just another reason I register as a Republican. If anyone is going to commit voter fraud, it's them, and you know they aren't challenging voter registrations they think are on their side.

  • Waldowal Waldowal 5d ago 91%

The first 5 or so of Trump's books. No meaningful lessons in business to be had. Just him bragging about people he knew, people he'd screwed over, how good he thought he was at pretty much everything. How he got back at anyone who crossed him. Insufferable. I knew he was one of the worst people ever before he even mentioned getting into politics.

And in those 5 books, he probably name-dropped every New York socialite he ever met. It's consistent with his whole image of self-worth and needing to look and feel important. You know who he didn't mention? Someone we've seen him with in several photos? Who he definitely would have mentioned if there wasn't a reason not to? Jeffrey Epstein.

How fucked up in your thinking and judgement do you have to be to:

    • Get that angry about an order being wrong in the first place. So much so the restaurant locks their doors because they are scared of you.
    • Call in backup
    • WAIT for backup to arrive (clearer thinking would normally set in here)
    • STILL act like you're being reasonable (when he knows he's on body camera)

This guy is a true psychopath.

That study is idiotic. It's literally an embodiment of the joke: "You could have found it faster if you looked in the last place first".

Standardized triage testing has been shown over and over to save many more lives than doctor intuition alone. Just because a test rules out a diagnosis doesn't make it "unnecessary".

I use Android (Samsung) and I've never been able to find one that works. Sometimes I use Chrome, but many apps, like Connect for Lemmy have a builtin web viewer that I think is using the native web browser (so I need something that covers both). I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • Vance claims Trump 'salvaged' Obamacare. Trump tried, and failed, to kill it.
  • Waldowal Waldowal 3w ago 100%

Trump and the GOP are directly responsible for killing the part of ACA that required people to have insurance in 2017. That is what allowed all the young healthy people to drop their insurance which caused costs to go up for everyone else. It de-socialized it.

Mean to my friend's wife and kids for no reason. Just an asshole of a person. What are some ideas for fun pranks my friend can leave behind?

Most don't load for me. Just get a black screen. The ones I've checked were mp4s from imgur. Not sure if that accounts for all of them though. Edit: I think it started after the most recent update. Edit 2: mp4s from catbox.moe also doesn't work. It shows a spinner at the bottom but never loads.

Since it recently hit Netflix, I decided to see just how bad Madame Web really is. 45 second in, while showing the ever-present Marvel logo with the flipping comic book pages, I notice the sound effect is different. It vaguely sound like pages flipping, but it's definitely a toilet flushing. Did they buy into the bad reviews and literally decide to say: "check out this turd of a movie" with the intro sound?

This all revolves around conservatives focusing on ARR instead of RRR numbers on vaccine efficacy. Here's a description I found of the difference from another article: > Let’s say a study enrolled 20,000 patients into the control group and 20,000 in the vaccine group. In that study, 200 people in the control group got sick and 0 people in the vaccine group got sick. Even though the vaccine efficacy would be a whopping 100%, the ARR would show that vaccines reduce the absolute risk by just 1% (200/20,000= 1%). For the ARR to increase to 20% in our example study with a vaccine with 100% efficacy, 4,000 of the 20,000 people in the control group would have to get sick (4,000/20,000= 20%).
